A brief description of the institution’s discrimination response protocol or team:

Discrimination Protocol:
Any code of student conduct violation that manifests evidence that the victim was intentionally selected because of the perpetrator’s bias against the victim may be considered a hate-based conduct violation. The categories of bias include any actual or perceived identity protection under NSU’s Nondiscrimination Policy as well as ethnicity and homeless status. Any student found to have committed a hate-based conduct violation may be subject to disciplinary action up to, and including, dismissal from NSU.

NSU has a 100% confidentiality policy for any reported crime/infraction. For this reason, examples of protocol action can not be shared in the STARS report. However, general modes of action include the disciplinary action of the perpetrator as outlined above, as well as free counseling to the victimized parties, confidential reporting, and direct support from the Davie police Department.

Nova Southeastern University's recruitment program involves attending college fairs in underrepresented areas, as well as, provides incentives such as scholarships to underrepresented groups. Incentives for underrepresented student groups include, but are not limited to: Student Success Program (scholarship), free mentoring from Presidential Scholars, and a variety of clubs and events aimed toward aid for different underrepresented groups.

The Student Success Program is open only to under represented groups (minority ethnicities, nationalities, and first generation college students), and provide a mentorship program where NSU's Presidential scholars provide at least 3 mentor meetings per semester with these groups, and provide numerous opportunities for these students to better connect with their class and university.

The Diversity Dialogues are roundtable discussions on current inclusion and diversity issues led by a facilitator in our community. These were held the first Tuesday of the month through the spring of 2019 and are now being offered under the name Inclusive Campus Conversations. These sessions are open to all students and staff.
