A brief description of areas of biodiversity importance on land owned or managed by the institution:
The Florida Mangrove habitat is an important habitat on land managed by Nova Southeastern University.
The methodologies used to identify endangered and vulnerable species and/or areas of biodiversity importance and any ongoing assessment and monitoring mechanisms:
There are multiple ongoing studies and research that vary in methodology throughout the university. The mangrove habitat is used by both students and faculty in research and learning opportunities.
A brief description of the scope of the assessment(s):
The many research opportunities within the mangrove habitat range from shoreline modeling changes to ecological surveys and biodiversity assessments. Each project has a different goal and scope dependent on the participating party conducting the project.
A brief description of the plans or programs in place to protect or positively affect identified species, habitats, and/or ecosystems:
Programs and projects to protect the areas of high biodiversity are contingent on availability of funding and grants per fiscal year and are evaluated each year.
