Institution uses green infrastructure to manage rainwater and employs LID practices on a case-by-case basis. There are a handful of NSU buildings that are LEED certified (Gold and Silver).

The construction of new buildings complies with Broward Central Water Control District and South Florida Water Management District criteria for stormwater management. The new Residence Hall Parking Garage, constructed in 2019, incorporated the use of a stormwater retention vault and dry retention area.
