Green Sharks Sustainability Club
A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
Green Sharks is a student run organization who's mission is to educate students, faculty, and staff on what sustainability means and to advocate for sustainable initiatives on campus. Examples include SeaThursday events, the annual Earth Day celebration, Sustainability 101 Lecture series, and more. The organization is supported by the Physical Plant Department as a means of student-to-student education on campus sustainability initiatives. The student mentors are offered a variety of training opportunities throughout the year based on their personal sustainability related interests that they are encouraged to present on throughout the semester, as well as required to use to meet certain volunteer and event hour requirements. Recent topics have included effective climate/sustainability language, campus recycling sustainability initiative trainings, urban forestry planning, and environmental justice topics. With over 200 registered members on the chains of communication and receiving training, it is estimated that only 100 are active during different portions of the academic year
