A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the municipal/local level, including the issues, legislation, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:
The institution is represented on the Broward County Climate Change Task Force, NSU advocates for public policy on mitigating and adapting to climate change. For example, a climate change action plan was created, supported by the Task Force, and passed by the Board of County Commissioners. Dr. Richard Grosso, NSU Task Force Member, chaired the Natural Systems subcommittee for the revising of the community policy and action plan. Also, many members of the NSU community participated in the various public subcommittee meetings providing expert and community input. NSU engages in public policy advocacy through the Broward Planning Council promoting coordinated, comprehensive, long-range planning throughout the County to review and make recommendations to the Broward County Commission on all proposed amendments to the Land Use Plan.

NSU signed the White House initiative, American Campuses Act on Climate Pledge (ACAC) to amplify the voice of the higher-ed community in support of a strong international climate agreement in the United Nations COP21 climate negotiations in Paris. NSU signed the pledge on 12/18/2015.

NSU signed American Campuses Act on Climate Pledge (ACAC) initiative to amplify the voice of the higher-ed community in support of a strong international climate agreement in the United Nations COP21 climate negotiations in Paris. NSU signed the pledge on 12/18/2015. NSU students and alumni coordinated a "Stand For Sustainability" march in Fort Lauderdale 11/30/2015 as a local arm for the Paris Climate March for COP21.
