Has the institution engaged in a structured assessment process during the previous three years to improve diversity, equity and inclusion on campus?:
Yes
A brief description of the assessment process and the framework, scorecard(s) and/or tool(s) used:
Employee Engagement Survey
The College’s Employee Engagement Survey is administered every two years, most recently in 2023. The survey measures overall employee engagement and includes questions pertaining to physical and emotional safety, welcoming and inclusive work environment, and respect in the workplace. Along with a whole-College report, results are also assembled with specific reports from employees who self-identify as Aboriginal/Indigenous, persons with disabilities, members of racially visible groups, and women.
Canadian Campus Wellbeing Survey
NSCC also participated in the Canadian Campus Wellbeing Survey in 2020. The Canadian Campus Wellbeing Survey (CCWS) covers a range of health and wellbeing topics, including mental health, sense of belonging, respectful environments, food security, physical activity, substance use, and more.
Program & Student Services Satisfaction Survey
NSCC’s Program and Student Services Satisfaction Survey asks all students for their feedback on their overall student experience at NSCC. This survey includes questions about academic program as well as campus and college services and facilities, and the responses help us continue to enhance our services to foster a positive and supportive student experience.
Plans are also in place to develop balanced scorecards for reporting purposes, based on the above metrics, to ensure we are analyzing common measures that matter in support of an exceptional teaching and learning experience.
Currently we are able to identify students who have self-identified as being:
• African Nova Scotian/Black
• Indigenous
• Students with Disabilities
• Female
• International
• English language learner
