Does the institution have an ongoing program that offers incentives for academic staff in multiple disciplines or departments to develop new sustainability courses and/or incorporate sustainability into existing courses? :
Yes

A brief description of the incentive program(s):

NSCC has partnered with Montgomery College to participate in the UN SDG Open Pedagogy Faculty Fellowship. The award-winning fellowship provides faculty with an opportunity to work with their colleagues and students to impact change via open pedagogy and community engagement. Based on the conceptual framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), a set of 17 goals that address a wide range of social issues, such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and peace and justice, this fellowship is committed to supporting social justice through an international partnership in which faculty can work across institutions to maximize global impact. The UN SDGs are designed to achieve and maintain social justice and a sustainable future, with a target of the year 2030 set for the attainment of each goal. Faculty that participate in the fellowship are challenged to work alongside multidisciplinary colleagues to design assignments that advance the SDGs and deliver these assignments in their courses.

NSCC is currently facilitating the first year of this program.

A brief description of the incentives that academic staff who participate in the program(s) receive:

At NSCC, staff that participate in the fellowship are offered a casual contract through NSCC’s Applied Research office, in addition to their existing employment agreement. This contract ensures that staff who participate in the program are paid and recognized for their continued professional learning.
