A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:
In 2021/2022 NSCC has 80 students participate in international projects across nine countries around the world. Of these Students 56, self-identified as being part of a target groups (low-incomes, indigenous, students with disabilities). The College also launched a new all Black Nova Scotian program in St. Kitts & Nevis focused on culture, leadership and entrepreneurship.

Sustainable Entrepreneurship in Tourism in Grenada
This international learning program will provide an opportunity for NSCC and TA Marryshow Community College students and employees to participate jointly in a two-week program in Grenada learning about sustainability, entrepreneurship and eco-tourism in the region. The students will work together in small groups and visit several entrepreneurs on the island who focus on a variety of different aspects kinds of eco-tourism. The visits will provide students with a better understanding of sustainability practices in Grenada and an overall sense of the importance of entrepreneurship and tourism. During the second week the groups will be given a sustainability challenge and work together to find a solution based on information gathered through the site visits to service providers. The final project will have the groups present on their solution to the challenge in front of a panel of judges and a winner will be selected. Predeparture in underway and students will spend two weeks in country on the project in May of 2023.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
• Apply knowledge, skills and attitudes from tasks and projects in an international setting; • Outline the benefits of cross-cultural collaboration for work-related projects and tasks; • Build evidence of experiences and new learning (both personal and industry related) for portfolio development and the education of others; • Assess safety and risk pertaining to international travel to make informed decisions about travelling abroad; • Identify and reflect on the differences and similarities between Canada and Grenada.

Happiness Now 2022
NSCC sent 14 students and 3 staff members to Tanzania for two weeks in May 2022 to focus on local female entrepreneurship and access to education. Working directly with and educating 21 Tanzanian post-secondary students about entrepreneurship and business planning via the Business Model Canvas, taking those students into their communities to learn from other small, medium, and large business owners, hosting a week of “mini-ventures” on campus where VHTTI students will plan and run their own small businesses, following up with 7 of the women in the Vicoba and supporting them with their entrepreneurial ideas through education and mentorship. This program advances sustainability through increasing access to education, empowering women through reducing gender inequalities and supporting local economic growth. An additional group of students will be participating in 2023, selected students will undertake the project for two weeks in May 2023.
