Sustainability Committee:
Each of our 13 NSCC campuses has a Sustainability Committee. The campus sustainability committees are comprised of staff and students and all have a staff chair person. The Sustainability Committees meet quarterly with the central Sustainability Steering Committee. These meetings are chaired by Michael Chapman, Manager Infrastructure and Sustainability.

Each campus committee has monthly meetings and organizes sustainability activities and initiatives for their campuses. Some of the activities include: rent-a-plot in the campus greenhouse, zero waste day challenge, sustainability days expo, certifying the campus as "Bike Friendly", setting up information booths on Earth Day or World Water Day, or participating in the campus waste audit.

The sustainability office works to ensure NSCC's Sustainability Policy is effective, to further NSCC's sustainability initiatives, and to assist all campuses on sustainability matters. The office investigates problem areas and works to provide solutions at each campus, as well as tracks progress towards sustainability goals. Energy demand, water usage, waste generation/diversion, and greenhouse gas emissions, are some of the areas being monitored by the sustainability office in an effort to improve each campus' sustainability performance. This information is reported to the campuses via an Annual Sustainability Report, which can be located on the Sustainability Office webpage, www.nscc.ca/sustainability/reports.

NSCC operates a Sustainability and Infrastructure office lead by Michael Chapman. This department works with NSCC's Sustainability Policy to:
1. Provide on-going education for all members of the NSCC community regarding the importance of sustainable practices.
2. Enhance the quality of life through community building.
3. Support effective monitoring and reporting on sustainability progress.
4. Meet, and where possible, exceed, regulatory requirements related to sustainability, the environment and human health.
5. Implement Sustainable Purchasing Policies.
6. Conserve Energy, Water, and Other Resources through the efficient use of resources.
7. Minimize the generation of solid waste, and maximize the amount of waste diverted from landfill.
8. Minimize Environmental Risks on Campus.
9. Incorporate sustainable practices in the design and construction of campus grounds and buildings.
10. Demonstrate leadership to support the guiding Principles of the Sustainability Policy.
