NSCC operates a Sustainability and Infrastructure office lead by Michael Chapman. This department works to under the guidance of NSCC's Sustainability Policy to: 1. Provide on-going education for all members of the NSCC community regarding the importance of sustainable practices. 2. Enhance the quality of life through community building. 3. Support effective monitoring and reporting on sustainability progress. 4. Meet, and where possible, exceed, regulatory requirements related to sustainability, the environment and human health. 5. Implement Sustainable Purchasing Policies. 6. Conserve Energy, Water, and Other Resources through the efficient use of resources. 7. Minimize the generation of solid waste, and maximize the amount of waste diverted from landfill. 8. Minimize Environmental Risks on Campus. 9. Incorporate sustainable practices in the design and construction of campus grounds and buildings. 10. Demonstrate leadership to support the guiding Principles of the Sustainability Policy. In addition to the Sustainability office, each campus operates a Sustainability Committee, these committees operate small operations on their respective campuses and meet with the Sustainability Steering Committee at least quarterly every year.

Sustainability Committee Each NSCC campus has a Sustainability Committee. The campus level Sustainability Committee meets regularly with the Sustainability Steering Committee. These meetings are chaired by Michael Chapman, Manager Infrastructure and Sustainability.

A brief description of each sustainability office:
The sustainability office works to ensure NSCC's Sustainability Policy is effective, works to further NSCC's sustainability initiatives, and acts as a assistance service to all campuses. The office investigates problem areas and works to provide solutions to each campus, as well as record and follow each campus' resource usage. Energy demand, water usage, waste, greenhouse gases, and other energy usages are monitored by the sustainability office in an effort to improve each campus' consumption(s). This information is reported to the campuses via an Annual Sustainability Report, which can be located on the Sustainability Office webpage, www.nscc.ca/sustainability/reports. All employees working in the Sustainability office assist the Sustainability Officer in his duties.

The responsibilities of the team includes: Annual Reporting of NSCC's Environmental Performance, Chairing Sustainability Steering Committee meetings, Managing environmental certification programs for the college (BOMABESt, LEED, STARS), Capital Planning, policy development, maintaining the Colleges Sustainability Goals and Action Plan, regular reporting to the Board of Governors on college sustainability initiatives.
