A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome :
In 2016, the winning project for NSCC Electrical Engineering Technology Program was a prototype vehicle-to-grid project. This prototype included innovative technology that enabled electrical vehicles to charge during off peak times, then supply power back into the home during peak times. This is the first of its kind in Atlantic Canada.
Additionally, NSCC currently has three charging stations, and is in the process of installing an additional four electric car charging stations at campuses across the province. This will support the growth of the electric car industry in Nova Scotia by providing public infrastructure to rural areas, and increasing infrastructure in urban locations. Finally, in 2016 the Facilities and Engineering department hired a coop student to implement a sustainable fleet vehicle plan for future use.
