A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:

Pack It In - Pack It Out
OBJECTIVES
1. To reduce the amount of waste products used in classrooms, offices and labs.
2. To remove any waste products from classrooms, offices and labs on a on-going basis.
3. To educate and train staff and students in the correct selection and disposal of waste products.
4. To correctly sort and control the waste products for recycling and removal from the campus
5. To record the types of waste and the amount for future analysis and to fulfil our obligations under audit and with our Environmental policy.
PROCEDURE
1. Set-up waste stations in the central corridor with segregated, well signed waste compartments.
2. Train staff and students in the following manner:
- All staff are responsible for removal of their own waste from their offices and rooms to the central waste stations. These must be sorted in to the correct areas.
- Students should not be permitted to eat or drink in classrooms.
- After each class staff members must ensure that all students remove their waste and use the central waste stations correctly.
- Only paper waste in the recycling boxes is permitted in the classrooms. Where possible this is to be re-used.
3. Facilities staff to ensure waste is correctly sorted and bags are weighed and records kept of the waste produced.

It is hoped that by working together we can all reduce the amount of landfill waste produced and increase the amount of recycling. It is only through people’s efforts that effective waste management can be achieved. This policy will increase each person’s awareness of waste and their responsibilities towards its end use.
