A brief description of any internal sustainability professional development and training opportunities that the institution makes available to non-academic staff:
All University employees are eligible to get involved in the Green Office Certification program. This program offers sustainability training workshops for green team leaders. In addition, all employees working in offices that are in the process of certification are invited to participate in a presentation by the sustainNU staff.

Sustainability presentations and trainings can be requested by any office or department which would like to receive training around sustainability practices within their workplace or if they are interested in learning more about sustainability at Northwestern. Previous topics included deep dives into Northwestern’s waste stream, recycling Q&A, hosting sustainable events, or the State of Sustainability at Northwestern.

Additionally, the sustainNU team is in the process of developing an online staff training module on sustainability with Human Resources.

In addition, the sustainNU team works with the Northwestern University Staff Advisory Committee to offer an annual Lunch and Learn event focused on sustainability. The sustainNU team is also in the process of developing an online staff training module on sustainability.

Northwestern University is a member in the USGBC, and any full-time staff can link to our account. This paid membership provides discounts for training, education and professional development courses and provides some content for LEED accreditation for our staff.
