Name of the student educators program (1st program):
ASG Sustainability Committee

A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
ASG’s Sustainability Committee functions as a connection between students and administrators regarding sustainability issues at Northwestern. They work to help students reduce their environmental impact and understand opportunities for participating in sustainability projects on campus.

This committee offers educational opportunities to the whole undergraduate student population, conducts student outreach at campus-wide events, offers sustainability funding opportunities, spearheads sustainability projects on campus, and gives presentations and trainings to students in residence halls and student organizations.

Students that serve on this committee undergo sustainability training by the ASG Sustainability Vice President, Northwestern facility contractors, utility providers and Northwestern staff. Examples of trainings which have been administered include workshops on Northwestern’s electricity consumption and calculations for audits, fast fashion and sustainable consumption, energy audit/lighting training, etc.

Outreach opportunities and activities from the past three years include but are not limited to: 1) Sustainability Town Hall detailing the state of sustainability on campus open to all undergraduate students, 2) post-Dillo day cleaning and waste audits, 3) pop-up presentations around sustainability topics in residential halls, 4) sustainability training for student organizations, and 5) school-wide Earth day events and activities.

A brief description of the student educators program’s target audience (1st program):
The Associated Student Government committees at Northwestern University are dedicated to serving the undergraduate student body.

However, a variety of activities reach beyond just the undergraduate student population. Town Halls are open to the entire campus community, students and faculty alike. Dillo day is open to Evanston and the entire campus community. So, while the main audience with the undergraduate student body, activities reach beyond this audience.
