All unique courses were tabulated using Northwestern’s course catalogs by the Registrar. Courses were then surveyed and flagged using a variety of key words generated using the UN SDGs and the Earth Charter by the Registrar office. This list of key words was developed by sustainNU staff by condensing the AASHE provided list to reduce overlap within the key words and to focus on more relevant key words for Northwestern’s courses. Courses were then surveyed to identify practice-oriented courses and individually-directed courses. These were excluded from our inventory. Then total courses for undergraduate and graduate courses were tabulated. Sustainability focused and sustainability inclusive courses were identified and categorized from the courses, which were flagged during the key word search. Totals for these categories respectively were then calculated for both undergraduate and graduate categories.
