Does the institution collaborate with other colleges and universities to support and help build the campus sustainability community?:
Yes

A brief summary of papers, guides, presentations, and other resources the institution has developed to share their sustainability experience with other institutions:

Northwestern is a leader in the Alliance to Retrofit Chicago Higher Education, through which we and nine other local universities have committed to reducing our energy consumption by 20 percent in at least one campus building over the next five years. The University has conducted several recent presentations with University of Illinois - Chicago, Loyola University, and others. In addition we participated in a study of the impacts of University food service providers with the University of Chicago.

Students have also been active in collaborating with other campuses to share sustainability practices. The Associated Student Government Sustainability Committee has been involved in a Big 10 Sustainability Council for student government groups, and assembled a document of all Northwestern's sustainable practices and initiatives to share with other Big 10 schools. Student government members, as well as other environmental leaders also collaborate with students from other universities (particularly Chicagoland universities) through social media tools such as Facebook groups.

The names of local, state/provincial, regional, national, or international campus sustainability organizations or consortia in which the institution participates and/or is a member:

Chicagoland Campus Sustainability Network
Big Ten Sustainability Network
Illinois Sustainable University Compact
Alliance to Retrofit Chicago Higher Education
Chicagoland Network for Sustainability in Higher Education
Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education

A brief summary of additional ways the institution collaborates with other campuses to advance sustainability :

Northwestern works with Loyola University Chicago in a collaborative biofuels project. Combined with Chicago Biofuels, the universities have set goals to increase biofuel production and educate local communities about biofuels and sustainability. As part of this arrangement, Northwestern sends its leftover cooking oil to Loyola to be processed into biodiesel.

Northwestern also works alongside several universities in ANSER, the Argonne-Northwestern Solar Energy Research Center. We collaborate with researchers and students at the University of Chicago and Yale University to advance research in solar technology and sustainable energy solutions.
