A brief description of the institution’s wellness and/or employee assistance program(s):
On campus resources exist in the way of a campus health center and campus counseling services available for access by all students. The student nurse serves the Northland College campus in developing and maintaining a comprehensive healthcare strategy including educational programming, the encouragement of campus community members to participate in preventative health measures, consulting with campus community members on their individual healthcare needs, and making referrals to both on-campus and off-campus healthcare professionals as necessary. The Campus Health Center Nurse can also perform a variety of tests plus blood pressure checks and health assessments for free or minimal cost.
Campus counseling services are available to provide personal counseling and mental health referral; provide crisis intervention, assessment, and coordination of emergency situations; build cooperative and effective relationships with community mental health care providers; provide a pro-active, mental health education program for students; and provide support services for students with disabilities.
Additionally, an Employee Assistance Program is provided for all employees which provides confidential guidance and resources for employees and their immediate household family members by means of in-person help for short term issues; toll free phone and web access 24/7; unlimited phone access to legal, financial and work life services; discount on in person consultations with network lawyers; financial consultations and referrals; and work/life services for assistance with items ranging from child care to moving and vacation planning.

Smoking and Nicotine-Containing Products (Restricted)
Research proves that smoking and secondhand smoke are dangerous to the health of the smoker and to those who are exposed to smoke. Research continues on use of e-cigarettes, but preliminary studies show they deliver carcinogens and other irritants to the lungs, contributing to asthma, heart disease, and antibiotic-resistant infections.
In order to encourage health and protect all employees and other workplace participants, Northland College prohibits smoking and use of other tobacco or nicotine-containing products such as e-cigarettes in Northland College’s buildings, in Northland College’s vehicles or while performing job duties on behalf of Northland College.
Smoking Areas
Employees are not permitted to smoke or use e-cigarettes (“vape”) on Northland College’s property except in designated smoking areas . Employees who do smoke or vape in designated areas are encouraged to be respectful of others including extinguishing and not lighting cigarettes or other lawful smoking material, before leaving or entering the designated smoking area. Employees must not to smoke or vape in areas within 25 feet of College buildings.
Smoking or vaping is permitted during breaks in the following areas:
· Outside of Northland College’s buildings in areas marked for smoking;
· In Northland College’s parking lot;or
· In employee’s own vehicle.
Smoking and E-cigarette Safety
To lower the risk of fires and to keep Northland College’s property clean, employees who smoke must extinguish their smoking waste properly in designated smoking waste material receptacles .
The liquid nicotine used in e-cigarettes is a poison. The American Association of Poison Control Centers recommends the following safety steps:
· Protect your skin when handling the products.
· Always keep e-cigarettes and liquid nicotine locked up and out of the reach of minors.
· Follow the specific disposal instructions on the label .
· If you think someone has been exposed to an e-cigarette or liquid nicotine, call your local poison center at 1-800-222-1222 immediately.
Tobacco Use (Restricted)
Research proves that use of tobacco, including cigarettes, cigars, snuff and chewing tobacco, is dangerous to a user’s health. Research has also proven that secondhand smoke is dangerous to those exposed to it.
