A brief description of the incentive program(s):
Programs include: Requests for Course Reduction/Release Policies, sabbaticals, professorships, and funding from the Office of Sustainability. Outcomes include new courses in the Sustainable Community Development major, new campus initiatives in sustainability, new academic minors (e.g. Climate Science), new publications (even textbooks--see ISBN: 1-1115-4270-8), greater involvement in local agencies and schools (e.g. numerous presentations to area schools on topics ranging from sustainable forestry, environmental impacts of mining, novel approaches to creating more sustainable polymers, renewable energy, climate change, Native American culture, and others), support for (or creation of) numerous campus Centers (e.g. Sigurd Olson Environment Institute, Burke Center for Freshwater Innovation, Center for Rural Communities, Indigenous Cultures Center, Hulings Rice Food Center, Forest Lodge), and greater inclusion of sustainability in throughout much of the curriculum.
A brief description of the incentives that academic staff who participate in the program(s) receive:
Incentives offered to faculty include release time in teaching load, funding to attend conferences, funding for research projects, and additional salary for leadership roles.
