A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation:
Sustainability is featured in two aspects of new student orientation: All new students take an Outdoor Orientation trip designed to introduce them to the northwoods environment and to help them form connections with each other. Many of the trips include a component about the trip's carbon footprint, and all of the fall trips feature produce grown from the campus garden or organic regionally-produced goods. (See Mino Aki Garden here http://www.northland.edu/more-videos.htm?searched=videos&advsearch=oneword&highlight=ajaxSearch_highlight+ajaxSearch_highlight1.) Some proposed trips have been bike-focused.
Also, all new students take a two-hour workshop on campus sustainability and systems thinking led by the campus sustainability coordinator and the campus sustainability work-study students. The workshop is offered both in the fall and in the winter.
