NMU has both a diversity committee and a DEI Vice President & staff: https://nmu.edu/diversity/ The Diversity Advisory Council represents students, faculty, staff and local community, alumni and supporters of NMU. The goal of the committee is to heighten the awareness of diversity and increase inclusion opportunities throughout NMU and the Upper Peninsula. 


Northern Michigan University has a number of programs and support areas focused on helping students and employees of historically underserved populations succeed. The university has a strategic goal to continually work to improve its efforts toward antiracism, diversity, equity, inclusion, and creating a culture of belonging.

The Student Equity & Engagement Center (SEEC) provides trainings and workshops using nationally-accredited curriculum, the activities include topics of gender & sexuality (using the ALLIES model), inclusion and cultural competence (JUMP Start), as well as programs specifically designed for our campus - including Native American students needs and Trans student needs. The Uniting Neighbors In The Experience of Diversity (UNITED) Conference is aimed at informing the NMU and greater Marquette area of the different types of perspectives and points of view, with the ultimate goal of helping people think differently about diversity and inclusion.
