Start date July 1, 2022 Jan. 1, 2010
End date June 30, 2023 Dec. 31, 2010

A brief description of when and why the GHG emissions baseline was adopted:

The university first engaged in performance contracting with an energy savings company in the calendar year 2010. That performance contract marks the beginning of NMU's accounting for GHG emissions.

Fiscal year 2023 (July 2022 through June 2023) was use for this submissions GHG inventory, calculated using SIMAP software.

Figures needed to determine “Weighted Campus Users”:
Performance year Baseline year

Number of employees resident on-site 0 0
Number of other individuals resident on-site 0 0
Total full-time equivalent student enrollment 6,254 9,273
Full-time equivalent of employees 972 1,191
Full-time equivalent of students enrolled exclusively in distance education 782 16
Weighted Campus Users 5,581.75 8,643.50

Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user:
Performance year Baseline year
Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user 4.90 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 5.39 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per unit of EUI-adjusted floor area, performance year:
0.01 MtCO2e per square foot

A brief description of the institution’s GHG emissions reduction initiatives:

In December 2023, NMU's Board of Trustees approved the Carbon Neutrality Plan, which maps a path to carbon neutrality by 2050 with several strategies to reduce overall GHG emissions.
