NAU uses an internal system with similar framework to the international standards, including but not limited to: Top down support for an organization-wide culture of safety with standardized hazard assessment and hazard control approach, worker participation with heavy emphasis on personal ownership and supervisor facilitation, documentation (migrating from older paper methods to centralized automated compliance management systems), established roles and responsibilities, emergency preparedness, internal audit for program effectiveness, and root cause investigation.

A brief description of the methodology used to track and calculate the number of recordable incidents of work-related injury or ill health :
NAU developed an in-house online reporting system for all injuries. All injuries are reviewed for reporting criteria immediately, and those that meet recording criteria are entered into the OSHA 300 Log, and fully audited by NAU EHS and HR in the month of January prior to posting.
