A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:
Every Spring, NAU sends out an electronic survey to both on and off-campus students about their commuting behavior. The last survey we have data on record for was sent out on February 22, 2022. The response rate was low, totaling 2,763 respondents. Of this 13.2% of students, 54% use sustainable transportation methods: city bus 13%, walk 30%, bike 7%, carpool/other 4%.

Questions on the survey do not just assess their primary mode of transportation, but also the number of weeks in the year they are commuting to campus, the number of days they commute to campus in a week, and the approximate number of miles traveled one-way to campus from their residence, travel motes while on campus, as well as satisfaction with their options. Questions below.
