A brief description of the institution's green laboratory program:
The Green Labs Program is a collaboration between the Office of Sustainability and Environmental Health & Safety that started in 2019 with the goal to minimize the environmental impact, and inspire and promote a culture of sustainability in laboratories at NAU. We have developed educational information with waste metrics, and a checklist for labs to complete to become a Certified Green Lab. We first dove into our Hazardous Waste Streams to determine patterns and target areas for our Green Lab Program. In the spring of 2020, we developed a green lab checklist and began promoting the program to lab managers. The Office of Sustainability supports a Green Labs Coordinator student position at 10/hr per week to further implement the Green Labs program.
