This continuing education opportunity introduces participants to the field of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions accounting, equipping them with essential skills to identify, verify, and report a corporation's GHG emissions. As businesses increasingly recognize the environmental, social, and economic benefits of tracking and managing GHG emissions, this course provides a foundation in generating GHG emissions inventories for entities or corporations, including reporting requirements and verification processes for direct emissions (Scope 1) and indirect emissions from purchased electricity (Scope 2). This course is the first of a four-course series that leads to a Professional Certificate in Greenhouse Gas Accounting.

Key Program Highlights:

NAU offers unique professional training in carbon accounting suitable for both current students and working professionals.
With the rising focus on climate action by corporations and the need for skilled GHG accountants, this program addresses the growing demand for experts in this field.
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) proposed a rule change in March 2022, requiring publicly traded companies to report their climate-related financial risk, including their GHG emissions inventory. This regulatory shift underscores the significance of GHG accounting skills.
The program's four online, self-paced courses promote skill development and proficiency in GHG accounting, allowing participants to complete them at their convenience.
Each course costs $499 and has a 6-month expiration date.
Upon completing each course, participants receive a digital badge, and upon completing the four-course series, they receive a non-credit certificate from NAU.
Dr. Deborah Huntzinger, an expert in climate science and GHG accounting, leads the course.
The program offers flexibility, enabling participants to start upon registration, with 6 months provided to complete each course.
For more information, contact: ContinuingEd@nau.edu

Dr. Huntzinger's expertise and commitment to improving GHG accounting make this program a valuable opportunity for those seeking to advance their knowledge and skills in this crucial field.
