Sustainable Ambassadors
A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
Student population served: All Flagstaff Mountain NAU students.
Mission/Impact Statement: Improve climate change and sustainability literacy rates on campus, so that students in a variety of fields can bring this knowledge into their communities and careers. Students who complete the program earn a LinkedIn badge, and officially become a Sustainable Ambassador, a person who acts as a representative or promoter of sustainability here at NAU to educate and engage their peers.
Delivery Method: In-person classes and workshops; quizzes and reflections submitted via Canvas
Content:
Crash courses - We offer three different crash courses on the topics of climate change, sustainability, and climate justice. These courses are each offered at least twice per semester (we offer more if there is high demand). Each crash course is 2 hours long.
Workshops - We offer one in-person workshop per semester. This workshop helps students engage with the course material in a more personal way and apply the knowledge to their own lives and careers.
Online Assignments - Students will take a quiz prior to doing any of the courses or workshops to gauge their existing knowledge on the topics, and then will take one after completing the program to see how much they learned. They will also submit reflections after each course or workshop. All of this will be done through the virtual learning platform Canvas.

A brief description of the student educators program’s target audience (1st program):
While the program is offered to ALL NAU students, the primary target audience are students outside of sustainability-related degree programs. This course is advertised specifically to those in the Franke College of Business' Pathways to Professional Leadership Program, and Honors College Students. The course is also required in ENV 101, Environmental Challenges and Solutions, due to its high number of non-environmentalental degree-seeking students. The reasoning behind this is to increase the total percentage of students on campus who are knowledgeable of, and practicing sustainability. We target those outside of sustainability degree programs for the purpose of additionality, as opposed to providing substantiative information to those who are already sustainability-minded (although they are free to participate as well).
Students become sustainability ambassadors with the understanding that their role as an ambassador is to take their knowledge with them into their peer relationships, careers, and homes. This inspires the hope that the audience of this information will spread to encapsulate more than just NAU students, but the broader Flagstaff community as well.

Campus Living Community Partnership
A brief description of the student educators program (2nd program):
Target Audience: All NAU students living on campus
Mission/Impact Statement: The partnership between the Office of Sustainability and Residential Life promotes sustainability in the residence halls in the following ways.
Delivery Method: In-person training and events. All NAU Community Assistants (CAs, previously referred to as RAs) are trained to educate those living on campus on how to live sustainably in NAUS campus dorms. After this annual training, CAs will:
○ Hold sustainability-themed events in the dorms
○ Provide information on energy-saving power strips, shower timers, and other sustainable resources.
○ Partner with the Office of Sustainability for Earth Day events, Move-in/move-out waste reduction and furniture recycling, and the Use L.E.S.S (Lumberjacks Energy Saving Sprint) dormitory conservation competition that will begin in the spring of 2024.
