NAIT has a single stream recycling system. All recyclables are collected at NAIT are then sent to the City of Edmonton's Waste Management Centre of Excellence (EWMCE) where they are sorted.
NAIT's waste stream is also sent to the EWMCE. There the organic materials are sorted out from the waste and then composted.

NAIT Food Services has two formal food donation programs in place:
1. A Friday 'drop-off' program that involved volunteers dropping off safe leftovers to specified charities.
2. A seasonal donation program of safe leftovers to the Food Bank before seasonal closures.

Our kitchens collect material for use in the Biology Sciences Technology vermicompost program. The soil grown in these labs will eventually be used to grow the herb gardens for our kitchens

Organics are placed into the waste stream at NAIT. The waste is sent to the City of Edmonton Waste Management Centre of Excellence (EWMCE) where the organics are then separated from the waste, mixed with biosolids, and composted in the Edmonton Composting Facility.

The automotive trades programs recycle all fluids from service work (including oil , antifreeze and brake fluids) as well as any plastic containers and tires. Vehicles that are not appropriate to donate to highschool automotive programs for further use are sent to Central Metals for recycling.
