A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:
In the 2013 NAIT - Student Housing Survey, respondents were asked to indicate how they typically commute to school. Respondents could choose from walk, drive, bicycle, public transportation, or other. Although carpool was not an option on this survey, a previous survey conducted in 2009 determined that approximately 28% of drivers were carpooling, so 28% was used as a proxy to determine approximately how many of those that selected 'drive' in the 2013 survey were carpooling.
