A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Currently, NARCOSS is working with the oil sands industry to address important challenges relating to the environmental effectiveness of tailings and water related processes. Governed by and industry led Management Advisory Board, the Centre is fully focused on working with SME’s and other innovators in developing breakthrough solutions that demonstrate environmental responsibility, cost-effective oil sands development, and cleaner energy production. The NARCOSS team works alongside the oil sands industry (producers and service providers) to validate and enhance “near market ready” technologies that address critical market needs. This common goal allowed LEDCOR, the centre’s foundational partner and NAIT to forge new ground in applied research. NARCOSS’ 6,000 sq. ft. facility is fully equipped high-tech laboratory equipment and an expert team of applied scientists, engineers, technologists and summer students. NARCOSS staff provide a high level of industry specific expertise, and provide a unique set of capabilities in their collaborative work with the oil sands industry, academia, research and development organizations, and third-party innovators to take technology ideas from concept to commercialization.
