Various Capstone programming encourages students to take on industry-driven applied research projects within their courses for credit. Examples include: Bachelor of Technology - Technology Management (BTech-TM), Bachelor of Applied Information Systems Technology (BAIST), Digital Media and IT (DMIT), and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) prominently. Students can tailor their capstone program to suit their backgrounds and unique career paths, choosing electives from a range of topics designed to build strengths in leadership, entrepreneurship, business productivity, environmental and economic sustainability, or other areas of focus.
Students can also apply for an internal Applied Research Grant available to compensate student engagement in research generally, and research focusing on sustainability more specifically.

The library offers research guides for each program at NAIT, including sustainability-inclusive programs: Alternative Energy Technology, Forest Technology, Bachelor of Applied Information Systems Technology, Biological Sciences Technology, Bachelor of Technology in Technology Management, Water and Waste Water Technician.
The library also hosts various digital resources that can support sustainability research and learning including, but not limited to:
- Sustainalytics (formerly Canadian Social Investment Database); Includes profiles of Canadian companies listed on the TSX, with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) analyses.
- ENVIROnetBASE; One of the eBook collections in CRCnetBASE. Covers the latest research on pollution reduction, emissions, environmental contamination, methods for site assessment, remediation, and soil and water quality monitoring; also describes new tools and technologies for remote sensing, GIS, and photogrammetric environmental monitoring.
- Environment Complete; Covers a wide range of ecology and environment studies topics.
- Environmental Science and Pollution Management; Provides comprehensive coverage of the environmental sciences. Includes scholarly journals, conference papers & proceedings, reports and books.
- Environmental Studies and Policy Collection; Covers environmental issues and policies including diverse perspectives from the scientific community, governmental policy makers, and corporate interests.
- Business Economics & Theory Collection; Covers topics in business theory and economics and is worldwide in scope. Includes full-text journal and magazine articles, newsletters, and videos.
