The Alternative Energy Technology program is a two-year diploma program which trains highly skilled workers to fill a variety of roles within the alternative energy sector.
Students gain a balanced understanding of the economic, social, and environmental factors required for industry to leverage and drive Alberta's sustainable economic growth in environmentally responsible ways. The program is centered on the study of the following energy systems and their integrations:
- Solar PV
- Solar Thermal
- Geothermal
- Wind
- Fuel cells
- Co-generation
- Micro-Hydro
- Bio fuels
- Biomass Energy Systems
Graduates become valued project team members in both private firms and public organizations with the alternative energy sector.

The Bachelor of Technology in Technology Management (BTech-TM) degree is bridging the increasing gap between the diploma entry-level technologist and management. The reason for its development is in direct response to demand from industry for leading-edge technologists who have the technical theory, innovative skills, and ethical and social awareness required for sustainable industry, and for critical thinking practitioners who are able to address technological challenges in today's economy.

There are many programs offered at NAIT that integrate and focus on sustainability within the context of their respective industries, including Forest Technology, Biological Sciences Technology, Landscape Architectural Technology, Interior Design Technology, and Water and Wastewater Technician.
