A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the course inventory:
The STARS Sustainability Renewal Coordinator reviewed all course descriptions, and identified those that appeared to be either a sustainability course or course that includes sustainability in the NAIT Sustainability Course Inventory. She also analyzed whether a course appeared to include environmental, social, and/or economic dimensions of sustainability, and if it was a sustainability course (SC) or course that includes sustainability (CIS).
Because of NAIT's tight timeline to complete the STARS report, slightly modified definitions/criteria were established for completing the inventory:
- A course is a SC if it includes 'sustainable' in the title OR addresses all 3 dimensions of sustainability (environment, society, economy).
- A course is a CIS if it includes 2 dimensions of sustainability, a module on sustainability, OR addresses a sustainability challenge.
With the support of the deans, the inventory was then distributed to all departmental chairs for their review and verification. Chairs were invited to make comments to add/remove/edit courses on the inventory.
