Does the institution offer a telecommute program for employees?:
Yes
None
A brief description of the program:
The telecommute program is less of a formal, institute-wide offering but rather the opportunity to telecommute on a periodic basis to meet the personal requirements or preferences of the individual staff member and overall work requirements of the role. Many jobs (especially faculty and professional roles) offer a significant degree of flexibility allowing staff to perform many of their job duties remotely. Staff are provided this flexibility upon discussion with their manager. Many staff are required to provide customer service functions to students or other staff and therefore are not able to provide this service remotely.
While NAIT supports a telecommute program where workable, we also strongly believe in staff spending time with customers, students, colleagues and managers, ensuring they remain current within the organization. Faculty teaching on-line courses will normally telecommute/work from home but are requested to attend work regularly to maintain familiarity with curriculum changes, program direction and overall academic direction.
A Letter of Understanding was reached with AUPE in recent collective bargaining discussions confirming rules around support staff entering Telework/Telecommuting arrangements. See Letter of Understanding on page 50 of the attached Collective Agreement (URL below).
