NAIT has a no smoking policy for anywhere on Campus indoors and outdoors. There is signage declaring NAIT as a Smoke Free Campus.
This policy began on July 1, 2009, making NAIT among the first post-secondary in Alberta to go smoke-free.
This policy arose out of a desire for a healthy, safe, clean and respectful learning environment for all of the Institute's stakeholders.

The Department of Marketing and Communications publishes NAIT’s flagship publication, Techlife magazine twice a year, and publishes content to techlifemag.ca on an ongoing basis. Publication objectives are 1. To create a unique publication that would resonate not only with readers who have a strong relationship with NAIT, but also with stakeholders in business, industry and government with whom NAIT must advocate for continued and increased financial support and funding; and 2. To increase recognition of the NAIT brand, raise the value of a NAIT education and dispel blue-collar stereotypes by promoting NAIT’s progressive, personable and innovative brand through interesting and unexpected stories featuring NAIT stakeholders and technology. The magazine’s circulation is about 110,000 per issue.

ecoNAIT is a website that expresses the grassroots effort by staff and students to help NAIT become a more environmentally sustainable institution.
