The MA Dept of Environmental Protection requires institutions to provide data regarding their commuting population. This data is derived from a random survey method conducted by the Office of University Decision Support. They utilized a stratified random sampling to ensure a proportionate number of faculty, staff and students were included. The survey was administered using Qualtrics web survey software in November 2021.
Only students living off campus were included in the survey. Also excluded were students on cooperative education (Co-op) and on study abroad, as well as students taking classes exclusively on-line or exclusively at campuses outside of Boston. An individual’s primary mode was determined as the mode they used 3/5 of the days (or whichever had the next highest occurrence).
