As an academic institution, Northeastern values academic and educational opportunities for all staff. This is evident in the tuition waiver benefits NU provides to faculty and staff as well as other academic programming.
The Myra Kraft Open Classroom provides a sustainability-related professional development opportunity for all who are interested. The weekly Open Classroom courses address public policy issues in a regional context and engages the campus community in discussion and learning. The course is advertised to the full NU community and is available free of charge. It brings experts, practitioners, and students together in a regional context of subject matter. In Fall 2022, the focus was on Environmental and Justice in the Human Landscape. In spring 2022, the focus was on Community Voices in Urban Decision-Making often focusing on climate and environmental justice.

Northeastern University prioritizes programs to develop individual career and professional expertise. All Northeastern University employees are extended training and professional development. Some attend education programs for increased energy conservation options; building operations and maintenance best practices; regional professional conferences or programs focused on aspects related to resiliency, transportation, urban planning, diversity and inclusion tools; AASHE trainings and other professional membership organizations in their individual fields.
