Yes
A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:
Northeastern University integrates immersive experience into its educational format through its Co-op program. Undergraduates who choose not to pursue co-op are required to fulfill Northeastern’s experiential learning requirements by participating in at least one of the following: research, service learning, or study abroad programs including the Dialogue of Civilization programs.
Three Seas Program provides students the opportunity to study marine biology in three distinct environments at three world-renowned research facilities in New England, the Caribbean, and the Pacific Northwest. An internship in the field and independent research project provide the capstone to the fifteen-month graduate program. It is also available to undergraduate students and provides an opportunity to formulate independent scientific discovery in three distinct ecosystems.
Dialogue of Civilizations programs are faculty-led programs that focus on critical issues facing students and their peers at both the local and global levels. Students typically spend around 30 days in-country with a faculty leader from Northeastern University, learning about a specific topic or course subject in a chosen location. Many options include sustainability focused subjects while others are inclusive due to the activities and interactions scheduled. Examples from Summer 2022 include: Happiness and Sustainability in the Nordics; Reporting from Panama: Environmental Crisis at the Continental Crossroads; and Sustainable Energy in 21st Century Brazil.
