A brief description of how green cleaning is incorporated into cleaning contracts:

Stated in Northeastern University's Sustainable Practices and Operations Guidelines, the University is committed to purchasing products that minimize environmental impacts, toxins, pollution, and hazards to community safety to the greatest extent possible and prefer products that include recycled content, are durable and long- lasting, conserve energy and water, use agricultural fibers and residues, reduce green house gas emissions, use unbleached or alternative chlorine free agents, are lead free or mercury free, and use wood from sustainably harvested forests.

To that end, each request for proposal clearly states a preference for green cleaning methods and products (green seal) and asks contract award vendor to provide a written verification and inventory of products used.

Of the institution's uncertified building space, what percentage of floor area is maintained in accordance with an energy management or benchmarking program? (0-100):
100

A brief description of the energy management or benchmarking program:

The university uses a sub-metering system to measure and record building interval data for electricity consumption at a building level. Thermal interval data is recorded through the metering system at the central heating plant and expansion to buildings is planned in the future. All buildings are benchmarked by the Energy Group to identify and repair poorly performing buildings.

Of the institution's uncertified building space, what percentage of floor area is maintained in accordance with a water management or benchmarking program? (0-100):
100

A brief description of the water management or benchmarking program:

Water data is metered at a building level by the local utility and has been connected to the campus metering system in select buildings to measure and record interval data. All buildings are benchmarked by the Energy Group to identify and repair poorly performing buildings.
