North Seattle College President’s Advisory Council on Sustainability (PACS) provides both college and district-wide leadership by designing and supporting sustainability-related policies, programs, and practices driven by the “triple bottom line.” The PACS develops and recommends policies, programs and strategies that promote sustainability in advancing student success, excelling in teaching and learning, and building a sustainable community.

In 2009, the Seattle Colleges convened the Chancellor’s Sustainability Initiative Leadership Team from the three colleges to oversee and plan efforts to enhance sustainability in operations and instruction. The Sustainability Initiative led to the creation of the District Sustainability Committee, a representative body of students, staff, and faculty from each of the Seattle Colleges. The District Sustainability Committee is the over-arching sustainability body at the Seattle Colleges. The District Sustainability Coordinator chairs the committee. The committee has three working groups that align with the AASHE STARS framework. Each campus has a sustainability council/committee, which through a liaison help better coordinate campus and district objectives and goals.

North Seattle College is part of the Seattle Colleges district. Seattle Colleges has an Office of Sustainability. The Sustainability Coordinator in the Office of Sustainability serves as the lead coordinator for the implementation of a district-wide sustainability plan and continual resource conservation efforts. Since 2009, North Seattle College has also had a full-time SUstainability Coordinator and Office of Sustainability. That position has been vacant since spring 2020, but the position is posted in fall 2021.

The former sustainability committee became the President's Advisory Council on Sustainability (PACS) in 2017. The primary responsibility of the Council is developing and reporting to the college's Sustainability Action Plan. The council helps guide the direction of many AASHE STARS initiatives.

Recent accomplishments include:
+ Establishing and maintaining Free Trade Campus designation
+ Coordinating EcoChallenge annually
+ Helping create and support the new campus food pantry
+ Continuous support of the community garden on campus, the Licton Springs P-Patch
+ Helping establish and continuously supporting the new Benefits Hub on campus
+ Supporting students, faculty, and staff to attend AASHE and WOHESC conferences
+ Supporting various student sustainability-related clubs
+ Help plan and coordinate Earth Week events
