A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:

All new employees are invited to participate in the New Employee Orientation for Seattle Colleges, including faculty and staff. In early 2019, the District Sustainability Coordinator started attending all New Employee Orientations for a 30-minute in person overview of sustainability at Seattle Colleges and how they can get involved. We cover: 1) what does sustainability mean to you?, 2) why does sustainability matter?, 3) sustainability initiatives at Seattle Colleges, and 4) what you can do to help. The presentation engages participants in how they view sustainability personally and professionally. We discuss ways to get engaged on campus, reduce their and the colleges carbon footprint, water conservation actions, local, organic, and accessible food, and how to properly sort your waste on campus. It has proven a great way to reiterate our commitment to sustainability and recruit new employees to our efforts.
