A brief description of the institution’s sustainability partnerships with the local community:
Fostering community is an important part of NSCC's Strategic Plan. North Seattle Community College is the site of the first ever City of Seattle P-Patch that will be built on State (community college) land. It will serve the Licton Springs community surrounding the campus, and act as a communal hub for urban agriculture and community activities. It is part of the P-Patch program, which is the largest community garden program outside of New York City, boasting over 80 gardens serving thousands of people across the Seattle area. We have been working with the City, the State, and numerous community groups to come together to make this project happen, and it's establishing a baseline for how we should be engaged with the greater NSCC community for future projects.
