A brief description of the institution’s programs that help increase the diversity of higher education faculty :

For the last two years, North Seattle Community College has worked with the University of Washington's teaching and education programs to mutually benefit underrepresented groups in higher education. The program solicits students from the University of Washington working toward their teaching degrees / certifications, and places them in the classrooms at North Seattle Community College to gain hands on experience, and help build resume skills so that these students are more successful once they are finished with their respective programs. It is directly aimed at getting this students more comfortable and more proficient in the higher education classroom, and helping to foster a more diverse faculty and staff body in higher education. The students get directly paired with a faculty member at North, and if they are ready to teach and are properly certified, they will get given a class to teach solely. If they are not, they sit in and pick up skills by the faculty member they are paired with. It is part of the faculty diversity initiative started by President Mark Mitsui.
