A brief description of the diversity office:
North Seattle Community College is committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive campus climate for all staff and students. As evidence of this ongoing commitment to diversity and social equity, the college has implemented a variety of programs, workshops and ongoing training’s to increase cultural competency and awareness to build community and facilitate student success, namely the Office of Diversity and Retention and the Diversity Advisory Committee, facilitated by the director of the Office of Diversity and Retention. The Diversity Advisory Committee (DAC) is a standing committee that supports and advocates for the strategies, vision and values around diversity. A brief description of the diversity coordinator's position:
The Director of the Office of Diversity and Retention works with the Diversity Advisory Committee and the campus community to build better support networks, and make all students and staff feel comfortable being and working on campus. He specifically has developed the Training of Facilitators program, in which staff go through a ~30 hr training on diversity in the workplace, in higher education, and how to approach issues that lie therein.
