A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
In 2011, students in a geology course worked with the Sustainability Coordinator and their instructor to assess and analyze storm-water runoff on campus. Their research showed that due to our unique geographic position at the headwaters of Thornton Creek, we mitigate much of our own storm-water runoff on campus, and had been overcharged by Seattle Public Utilities. This resulted in an ANNUAL recurring savings of $27,300 to the college, in the form of a utility credit. Moreover, the hands-on project helped to develop the professional and technical skills of the students while providing a valuable new asset to the college.
