Our Sustainability website went through a major overhaul this year, resulting in a consolidated, one-stop-shop for all things Sustainability at the NSCC campus. We have an updated project list, history of our program, the steps that led to the development of the program at North, and a myriad of other resources for staff, faculty, and students. In addition, we have an RSS news feed in which subscribers instantly get sent out the latest sustainability news as soon as an office member posts it to our website.

We had a major push to incorporate recycling and composting into the students' daily activities, and in addition, we have provided the funds to implement composting and recycling in two of our campus buildings, including where our cafeteria is housed. In addition, we host events that bring up the larger discussion of equitable food systems, and provide information to those who wish to learn more about sustainability food systems, equitable labor practices in food production, local food systems, and a whole lot more.

There is a green-walking map / tour of the newest building on campus, our OCE&E building, which was a joint-venture between the school and the WA State dept. of Social and Human Services. It is a LEED Gold building and features a green roof, rain-water catchment systems, and a whole host of other features applicable to sustainability.

In the NSCC cafeteria all the tables are decorated with table tents that read: Stop, Think, Sort. While you enjoy your meal, please think about which collection bins to place service ware, leftover food, and clean recyclables into when you bus your table. Thank you!
We also disseminate information about bicycle maintenance as we just installed and DIY Public Bicycle Maintenance station, so we are in the process about educating people about taking charge of their own maintenance.

A publication around school that lists some projects the school is working on, lets students and faculty know they are welcome to come by and help out or ask questions. Has rip-offs of the Sustainability Office phone number.

In the cafeteria above the waste bins, there is a color coded sign that hangs down showing the items that are to be recycled, composted or thrown in the landfill. Taped to the blue part of the poster is newspapers, and plastic bottles among other recyclables. Taped to the green section is orange rinds, compostable forks and plates among other compostables. The black section has things that have to be thrown in the land fill such as bottle lids, foil and condiment packages.

The sustainability office has produced a set of documents that outlines sustainability oriented businesses and organizations that have sustainable volunteer opportunities. This info is disseminated via the NSCC sustainability website, and is available so that students and members of the campus community have the ability to get connected with sustainability in greater community in addition to within the bounds of the campus.
