In 2011, Niagara College established a Sustainability Committee to provide an open forum for the discussion of College-wide initiatives with a goal of improving and extending current environmental, social and economic practices in an open and transparent decision-making process. In this way, the Sustainability Committee is dedicated to integrating sustainable principles on all campuses, focusing on the five areas of priority including: energy, water, and paper consumption, waste generation and carbon emissions.

A brief description of each sustainability office:
Niagara College first made environmental sustainability a key strategic priority in 2009, forming the Sustainability Committee in 2011. The Office of Sustainability was launched in January 2015 within the Business Development Division as a formalized extension of the Sustainability Committee. The Office of Sustainability is committed to driving a horizontally and vertically integrated culture of sustainability that goes beyond operations at the college to create living laboratories for student, employee, and community learning.

A brief description of each sustainability officer position:
The Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for managing the Office of Sustainability at Niagara College. The position is responsible for working in conjunction with the sustainability committee to fully integrate sustainability into all areas of the college. This includes managing the sustainability strategic goals and all sustainability related projects across the campus including waste and carbon management, regulatory requirements and all sustainability student projects.
The Sustainability Engagement Officer reports to the Sustainability Coordinator within the Office of Sustainability, The main focus of the Sustainability Engagement Officer is to communicate, engage and work with students and employees on all sustainability related projects. This position is also responsible for hosting events, engaging and organizing volunteers for these events, and acting as a liaison for our community partners.
