The Sustainability website is a central website for everything related to sustainability at Niagara College. This includes all of the College's environmental programs and initiatives; information on the Sustainability Committee, the College's sustainability policy and partnerships; NC's sustainability targets; Links to NC's environmental program pages; A new regularly-updates events calendar; Opportunities to get involved, including volunteer opportunities; and information regarding on-campus sustainability projects, and much more.

The Office of Sustainability has a Twitter Account (@Sustain_NC), an Instagram account (@SustainabilityNC), and a Facebook account (Niagara College Sustainability). All of these platforms help to engage students and employees about sustainability on campus, ways to get involved, events, new projects, and more.

Niagara Research and Innovation has a website that highlights information on all research projects including sustainability related student research projects. Niagara Research and Innovation also has many resources including publications and reports that highlight all research projects, as well as research projects by specialized area including Agriculture and Environment.

A brief description of building signage that highlights green building features :

Niagara College has a number of sustainability signs around campus that highlight green building features including the solar panels, geothermal system, wind turbine, and the HVAC system upgrades. These signs are part of a larger sustainability sign program at the college that includes signage on projects related to energy, carbon emissions, biodiversity, education & engagement, globalization, waste, paper and water.

We have two food service providers on campus. The largest provider is Chartwells, which provides information on their BALANCE program, which links together four distinct yet interconnected areas of focus: Wellness, Environment, Supply Chain and Community. There is also signage about the importance of supporting locally grown food.

The second food service provider is the Canadian Food and Wine Institute located at the Niagara-on-the-Lake campus that has a full service restaurant, Benchmark, as well as a takeout cafe, Bench to Go, and a food truck Bench on the Go. The Niagara College Welland Campus features a number of signs located around the grounds that highlight sustainable landscape strategies including:

Niagara College provides information on public transit in the Niagara Region as well as outside the region, including transit schedules and transit routes. The Niagara College U-Pass system provides students with a universal bus pass, granting unlimited ridership on all Welland, Niagara Falls and St. Catharines transit systems. Students are charged a fee as part of their tuition, and save up to $750 per term on bussing.

A brief description of the guide for green living and incorporating sustainability into the residential experience:

The Student Residence Handbook has information and tips for incorporating sustainability into the residential experience. Information includes tips and strategies on how to reduce negative environmental impacts related to heating and cooling, water heaters, refrigerators, stoves and ovens, washer and dryers, computers and electronics, and lighting. It also includes a detailed list of what items can be recycled in what waste streams available at the college and in the residences.

Niagara News, the student newspaper at Niagara College, has a journalism student assigned to cover environmental and horticultural topics. Some topics covered in the past include transportation, bottled water, energy retrofits, local food, and more.

InsideNC is the major employee news source at Niagara College designed to share information with all employees at the college. The Office of Sustainability uses InsideNC as the main avenue to share sustainability stories, new projects, events, and more with the college employees.

At each hydration station, clear plastic sleeves have been installed that allows sustainability posters to be featured. They can be changed to highlight a number of different activities, events, opportunities and to disseminate general information on any sustainability related topic.

Niagara College has implemented a new program called the Co-Curricular Record. This is an official Niagara College document developed to enhance your resume and career or academic portfolios by officially tracking all volunteer hours completed through Niagara College. The Get Involved Portal is the website that hosts the event calendar and volunteer opportunities that make up the Co-Curricular Record. The Office of Sustainability has a profile that allows all sustainability related events, campaigns, workshops, activities and other volunteer opportunities to be posted for students to view and in turn get involved.
