Yes

A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:

Niagara College offers students a number of international field study projects every year. In the 2014-2015 academic year, Niagara College offered field study projects to the Dominican Republic and Ecuador that both had a focus on sustainability.

During the field study to Los Cacaos Dominican Republic, students engaged in activities related to fair-trade coffee production, greenhouse production, aquaponics, Eco-tourism, with an emphasis on interacting with community members in cultural exchanges.

The field study to Ecuador is held in conjunction with Me to We, in which students volunteer their time right in the heart of the rainforest. The Amazon represents one of the world’s most bio-diverse ecosystems and provides an ideal backdrop to learn about longstanding indigenous rights and environmental protection issues, including deforestation and environmental degradation. Students connect with local community members and experience a day in the life of a villager, visit a Shaman and learn more about the cultural traditions of the indigenous population, and to work with the community on education and reforestation projects.
