A brief description of the institution’s sustainability partnerships with the local community:
Niagara College works very closely with the Niagara Community through a number of partnerships. Some of these partnerships include Niagara Sustainability Initiative (NSI), which is a not-for-profit organization focused on improving environmental and economic performance by engaging the community to reduce carbon emissions, enhance sustainability and improve economic performance; The Many Hands Project is a hands-on component of Niagara College’s Event Management graduate certificate program. Each year students plan, develop co-ordinate and execute a community renovation project at a local, non-profit organization and take on the responsibilities of fundraising; Walker Industries which has a carbon neutral service, has partnered with Niagara College to conduct a carbon inventory of the Wine Visitor and Education Centre and the Rankin Technology Building and offset those buildings through third party verified carbon offsets generated by Walkers. The Niagara College Research and Innovation department has also partnered with a large number of organizations to conduct sustainability related research projects.
