A brief summary of the climate plan’s long-term goals:
Niagara College has partnered with the Niagara Sustainability Initiative, which is a local not-for-profit organization focused on improving environmental and economic performance by engaging the community to reduce carbon emissions, enhance sustainability and improve economic performance. Through this partnership Niagara College has committed to reducing carbon emissions by 20% over 10 years (2009 baseline year). This includes scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions and works to educate internally as well as externally throughout the community to the benefits of managing carbon emissions. Niagara College is also required to publically report annually through this partnership.

The long term goals committed to in the partnership with the Niagara Sustainability Initiative have also been modified to a shorter term of 10% carbon emission reduction by 2016 target as identified in the Sustainability Plan and the Niagara College Strategic Plan (2013-2016).
